Woodbridge Neighborhood
I have lived in the Detroit Area since 1932 and did not know about this historic neighborhood until new years day 2012. On the way to the Detroit Boat Club for the annual “Champagne Toast”, I was taken to this area by a friend delivering a Christmas gift. The video below describes the neighborhood.
In addition the video I found a description on Wikipedia
At the Toast held at the venerable Detroit Boat Club, I ran into Marcia Cron (in the photo are Marcia Cron on the left with Peggy Jo the Publisher of the Peggy Jo Studio Newsletter) the proprietor of the now closed Woodbridge Tavern in the Bricktown area.
The City of Detroit condemned most of the buildings in the area and put Marcia out of business. She still owns the building and pays taxes on it but the City has not done anything with the area.
The State of Michigan is stepping into the finances of the City of Detroit and will probably appoint a Financial Manager or put the City into bankruptcy. What will happen to this, and other viable neighborhoods, in Detroit.
John Gallagher wrote a book with a possible solution. It can be found by clicking here
And a video of John Gallagher delivering an address to a TED group is below:
