Using your Mobile Device
This page will show you how to use your mobile internet device such as a smartphone or an iPad
This demonstration was developed using an Android phone on the Verizon Network. Your device might not render the information in the same exact manner but it should be close.
Developing for mobile devices requires a recognition that the screen is much smaller than a desktop or even a laptop computer and that there is no mouse or pointing tab and that typing for most people is difficult on a mobile device.
This tutorial will only cover the task of getting a list of events for one day from the Peggy Jo Studio Newsletter database. This application can only be run on a smartphone or iPad.
- Step one: Open your mobile device’s internet connection and access the Mobile Website’s home page.
After typing in the site name, use your pointing device, your finger, to tap on the URL box (The box that you typed the words “pjnews.mobi”.
You might get the message that the page is not available. Just wait a while and tap on the warning message until the page is located and rendered as in Step Two.
- Observe the mobile web page and select the events option by tapping on the icon above the word “Events” on the screen.

- Observe the screen. The titles of the events for the current day are presented with a Green Button below with the words “Get Event Details”. You can scroll down the list of events by ” swiping up” (placing finger at the bottom of the screen and without lifting the finger move the finger up the screen)
If you want to see the details of any of the events, tap the green button>

- When you click on the green button, the following page will be presented for the event. You can browse up and down the screen by “swiping up and down” (See swiping above).

- To get back to the list of events, use the back button, which on the device being used is the curved arrow off the screen and on the device itself. This will vary from device to device.
- While scrolling up and down the screen you will see blue buttons with other dates that can be selected. It will be the days following the current date.

- If you want to see what is happening even farther in the future, scroll down to the screen below.

- Tap on the blue button entitled ” Select Monthly Calendar” and the following screen will be presented.

- To get the information for a day on the calendar, tap on the day. To advance to another month, tap on either the month displayed on the top right or the top left. Going back in time might not get accurate results because some events are deleted from the database when the event date is past. Going too far in the future will also render questionable results because the database might not yet contain the data.
