Donate Old Clothes And Visit the Zoo

The Detroit Zoological Society and The Salvation Army will conduct a drive to collect used clothing and household goods during the last weekend in March and the first weekend in April at the Detroit Zoo.

“Partnering with The Salvation Army in this effort provides a way for Zoo visitors to respond to the growing need of the families in our community in these difficult economic times,” said Detroit Zoological Society Community and Government Relations Manager Paul Good.

Donors can drop off used but usable clothing and household goods at The Salvation Army truck in the Zoo’s front parking lot March 28-29 and April 4-5, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A tax receipt will be available upon request at the time of donation. Contributions to the donation drive can be made without payment to enter the Zoo; regular admission and parking fees apply for those visiting the Zoo.

Donations to The Salvation Army’s Thrift Stores generate total funding for the ARC’s 180-day residential rehabilitation program for adults, which provides food, shelter, education and counseling services to those re-establishing their lives free from alcohol and chemical dependencies.
