The wonders of coffee filters

Better than paper towels and a lot less expensive

Coffee filters —- Who knew! And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree for almost nothing even the large ones.

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers.

2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome… Coffee filters are lint-free so they’ll leave windows sparkling.

3. Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish.

4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.

5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.

7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.

8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.

9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.

10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.

11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.

12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters.

13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. It soaks out all the grease.

14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great “razor nick fixers.”

15. As a sewing backing. Use a filter as an easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliquéing soft fabrics.

16. Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors.

17. Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put in soups and stews.

18. Use a coffee filter to prevent spilling when you add fluids to your car.

19. Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small counter spills.

20. Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a piece of fruit or veggies.. Saves on having extra bowls to wash.

21. Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.

22. Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls.

23. Use them to sprout seeds. Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a plastic baggie until they sprout.

24. Use coffee filters as blotting paper for pressed flowers. Place the flowers between two coffee filters and put the coffee filters in phone book.
25. Use as a disposable “snack bowl” for popcorn, chips, etc.

OH YEAH THEY ARE GREAT TO USE IN YOUR COFFEE MAKERS TOO.

David Brooks Nails It

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

In an interview with Charlie Rose, David Brooks, a conservative columnist , said that the seniors are the only voting bloc that can make a difference.

He sited the fact that they have enough maturity to see the long term consequences of our present political climate where there is no end to campaigning for office and no time for governing

Both political parties and the new Tea Party advocate cutting spending and increasing services and also reduce the debt.

Mature people can see that this is impossible.

They must get organized to support the office holders to make the hard  neccessary decisions in order to protect our children and grandchildren

A Growing Problem!!

  • People are paying for internet access and being told that they will also receive free email access however all email is not being delivered.
  • Why would Internet Service Providers ( ISP) cut back on email? we don’t know but the following could be some reasons.
    1. The number of email users is increasing too fast for them to expand their resources to cover the neew users. Unlike the internet, email has to be stored until the user picks it up.
    2. They want to curtail their service so that they can sell premium services, which are illegal at this time (See: Internnet Neutrality)
    3. They are trying to eliminate Spam
  • The Peggy Jo Studio Newsletter is not Spam
    1. Constant Contact has built it’s business by not allowing Spam to be sent via their site.
    2. Subscribers who opt out can never be re-added by the Peggy Jo Studio Newsletter. Only the subscriber can re-add their email address. to the database.
  • What factors lead us to suspect curtailment of services?
    1. The Peggy Jo Studio Newsletter (PJSN) has been sending an email newsletter out to more than 8,000 email address for th past six and a half years.
    2. The newsletter is prepared and submitted to Constant Contact that operates an email marketing service. That service provides the publishers of the PJSN with feedback about the recipient’s actions.
    3. In recent months fewer recipients have opened their mail
    4. Each week subscribers complain that the did not receive their email. and they are not the same subscribers.
    5. The newsletter has been getting larger which might be an explanation for the newsletter being placed in the subscribers junk mail folder but the subscribers say that somtimes they do get the newsletter and sometimes they do not.
    6. If there is a delivery problem, the Peggy Jo Studio is notified by Constant Contact and this is not happening.
    7. Some subscribers never receive the newsletter in spite of all their efforts.
  • Why should subscribers be concerned?
    1. They are not getting what they are paying for
    2. They don’t know what else they are missing
    3. They should be in charge of deciding what emails should be filtered out
  • How can they help?
    1. When the do not receive the newsletter on a Monday morning, they should contact their ISP
    2. They should place the address peggyjo@peggyjostudio.com in their contact list.

An Esther Weekend

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Esther Weekend: Pastor John and Donna Denson write:
We are delighted to announce our first women’s conference, “An Esther Weekend”, to be held Friday and Saturday, February 19 and 20, at Bloomfield Hills Baptist Church, 3600 Telegraph Road, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
We encourage all women – moms, daughters, sisters and wives – to be a part of this exciting event. It will begin with a Friday evening reception and fundraiser, highlighted by a keynote message from conference speaker Amy Downey of Tzedakah Ministries and music by the Shalom Women’s Praise Team. Plus, those of you who missed Donna’s Messianic art display at the Chanukah Reception will have a second chance to see it on Friday evening.

On Saturday, Ms. Downey will share her burden to reach the Jewish people with the truth that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah; and she will challenge conference participants to fulfill their unique role as women in bringing the Gospel to God’s special people and others in their spheres of influence.

The reception will begin with light refreshments at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by the program from 7 to 9 p.m.

Saturday’s workshop, “Equipping Women to Reach God’s Jewish People with the Message of Messiah Yeshua,” will run from 2-5 p.m. There is no charge for the workshop, but a donation of $15 is suggested. For additional information, please call 248-312-8277 or 248-545-8800, ext. 28

. We invite you to attend this very timely conference dealing with issues of concern to today’s Christian women – and, please, bring your friends! Come prepared to become better equipped to carry out God’s great commission to bring the Word of Life to a lost and dying generation!

Ms. Downey holds a bachelor of science degree in education from East Texas Baptist University and masters of arts degrees in communication and theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She is a professor at Arlington Baptist College in Arlington, Texas, and the author of Paul’s Relationship to the Jewish People: An Analysis of 1Thessalonians 2:13-16 and Romans 9:1-15, along with numerous magazine articles.
