"National
Veterans Awareness Week"
U.S. Senate Designates November 11 through November 27, 2007 a
"National Veterans Awareness Week" to emphasize the need to develop
educational programs regarding the contributions of veterans to the country
Tens of millions of Americans have served in the Armed Forces of the United
States during the past century and the contributions and sacrifices of the
men and women who served in the Armed Forces have been vital in maintaining
the freedoms and way of life enjoyed by the people of the United States.
The advent of the all-volunteer Armed Forces has resulted in a sharp
decline in the number of individuals and families who have had any personal
connection with the Armed Forces and this reduction in familiarity with the
Armed Forces has resulted in a marked decrease in the awareness by young
people of the nature and importance of the accomplishments of those who have
served in the Armed Forces, despite the current educational efforts of the
Department of Veterans Affairs and the veterans service organizations;
The system of civilian control of the Armed Forces makes it essential that
the future leaders of the Nation understand the history of military action
and the contributions and sacrifices of those who conduct such actions; and
in each of the years 2000 through 2006 the Senate has recognized the need to
increase the understanding of the contributions of veterans among school-aged
children .

Twenty-five years after its dedication, Vietnam memorial
still has power to heal.
Randy Barnett knows the Wall can heal. He has made the pilgrimage to
Washington to stare at its black panels — and to remember.
“It’s a sacred place now,” says Barnett, 57, president of Kansas City’s
Chapter 317 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
“It takes a lot of courage to go up to it. It helps you … and it’s a release
because you can leave some of what happened to you there.”
If you are not familiar
with military protocol, the little guy has lost a Daddy or Mommy.
"But those who wait on the
LORD will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They
will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31
From our readers.
Hey Peggy Jo,
It's J. T, RN . I work with a bunch of catty females. I loved
your message..." Why do you have to put your two cents in...but only a
penny for your thoughts"? Where's the extra penny going to?
Hopefully this will make them think!!!! I laughed. I love reading
your messages. They always bless my spirit or make me laugh.
Your hard work and efforts for this site add a ray of light to my busy
life. Your AWESOME!!!! You can put this comment in next week if
you wish. Blessings to you!!!!
J. T.
Thanx J.T.,
I love the feedback and your kind words.

Hi Guys
Many thanks for your newsletter - one question -- you show Somerset's
Christmas Party on the 14th this week but do not show Sailing Singles
Christmas Party on the 15th?
A.
Hi A.
The reason SS isn't in as often as Somerset is because, as the
newsletter grows, there are more people that want to put in
events---therefore, we have asked the various clubs to enter their event in a
special database. Somerset has been faithful with their entries so we have been
able to just transfer their information--While SS hasn't anyone to fill in the
data so we had to create it first.
Sorry 'bout that but the information isn't at our fingertips. Will be
sure to have it in future issues.
Peggy Jo
