911 Angel

The brief change in America following the tragedy of 9/11/01 was profound. Suddenly, people were realizing the inappropriateness of the violence and sexuality in movies and on TV. Comedians who had previously made fun of people were now edifying them. The curbing of excessive celebration of entertainment as shown by the re-scheduling of the Emmy awards was refreshing. People were openly praying for our country and for one another. The American flag was being displayed everywhere.
I wanted to do a painting to commemorate all this. I knew I wanted to write on it the scripture that said: "For he shall give his angels charge over thee". So I created an angel dressed in red, white, and blue and holding the world. But I had momentarily forgotten exactly where the verse was located in the Bible. I looked it up and discovered it was part of one of my favorite psalms, not mentally registering its number at the time. I was very tempted to incorporate the verses surrounding it but somehow I limited myself to just the original scripture I had in mind.
people who know me, know that I'm the type of
person who looks in the mirror and puts one more accessory on,
while most people look in the mirror and take one thing off,
so not elaborating with more verses was surprising.. got
chills when I realized that the scripture I had been led not
to add any verses to was Psalm 91.11. Truly this artwork must
have been supernaturally inspired.

Fly The Flag
On Tuesday September 11th, 2007, an
American flag should be displayed outside every home,
apartment, office, and store in the United States. Every
individual should make it their duty to display an American
flag on this sixth anniversary of our country's worst tragedy.
We do this honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their
families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the
pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to
preserve our cherished freedoms.
In the days, weeks
and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American
flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood
shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags
have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through
some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to
galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag represents the
fabric of our country and together we can prevail over
terrorism of all kinds
Rosh HashanahRosh Hashanah (Hebrew: ראש השנה,
Biblical: ˈɾoʃ haʃ:ɔˈnɔh, Israeli: ˈroʃ haʃaˈna, Yiddish:
ˈroʊʃ hɑˈʃɔnə) is literally translated as "head of the year",
and idiomatically refers to the Jewish New Year. The term
first appears in the Tanakh, in Ezekiel 40:1. In fact, Judaism
has four "new years" which mark various legal "years", much
like 1 January marks the "New Year" of the Gregorian calendar.
Rosh Hashanah is the new year for people, animals, and legal
contracts. The Mishnah also sets this day aside as the new
year for calculating calendar years and sabbatical (shemitta)
and jubilee (yovel) years. The Torah refers to the day as "The
Day of the Blowing of the Shofar" (Yom Terua, Leviticus
23:24), and rabbinic literature and the liturgy itself
describe Rosh Hashanah as "The Day of Judgment" (Yom ha-Din)
and "The Day of Remembrance" (Yom ha-Zikkaron). Some midrashic
descriptions depict God as sitting upon a throne, while books
containing the deeds of all humanity are opened for review,
and each person passing in front of Him for evaluation of his
or her deeds. All of these names are also referenced in the
holiday's extensive liturgy. This holiday is the first of the
Yamim Noraim (Hebrew, "Days of Awe"), the most solemn days of
the Jewish year; the Yamim Noraim are preceded by the month of
Elul, during which Jews are supposed to begin a
self-examination and repentance, a process that culminates in
the ten days of the Yamim Noraim known as Asseret Yemei
Teshuva - The Ten Days of Repentance, beginning with Rosh
Hashanah and ending with the holiday of Yom Kippur.

People with hate in their hearts may sound

House of Blue Leaves is a very funny start to our
85th season! John Guare's award-winning farce. This is his
most popular and arguably most important play. Based on the
Pope's visit to NY on October 4, 1965, the story focuses on
one man's desire for success as a big-time songwriter, which
clashes with his middle-class family life. A very funny start
to our 85th season. Starts at 8:00 PM..

So-Long-T0-Summer Sept 22 |
|
"So-long To Summer" Party Come out and party with us, as we
close out a great Summer, and welcome the arrival of Fall.
And, to make this even better, while we're all partying with
friends, we'll be helping the American Cancer Society in their
search for a cure, at the same time. This will be a rockin'
good time: Barnstormer Banquet Center is donating their
awesome outside patio tiki-bar for this party (in case of
rain, we'll be inside the Banquet Center). Cash Bar and food
will be available (grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, kielbasa and
chicken on the patio - full menu inside), door prizes, and
live music provided by two great acts: Jarrett Cogswell and
Scotty Alexander (our own Elton John), and a DJ to round out
the evening's entertainment.
Everyone, from ages 21 to
105, are welcome. Proceeds from your $10 at-the-door donation
will go to the American Cancer Society's "Relay For Life of
Brighton"®. Opportunities are also available for sponsorships
and prize donations. For more information, or to sponsor
prizes, please call Joe Knopp at 810-923-1567 or Rick Beaudin
at 810-553-4343. |
