This Week's Now "Famous Person"

Ray Ray is now famous because he is appearing in the "Got Mustard Campaign" . He learned how to look happy and point to the product while he was an advertising executive. He remembers going to baseball games as a kid with his father and eating hot dogs with mustard. He didn't like mustard on anything else, not even hamburgers. Now, after trying Charley's Ballpark Mustard, he has a new appreciation for the condiment and puts it on all kinds of food! "I really like it and that's the truth!" There are almost 500 people who have volunteered to participate and we have found it necessary to change the way the slide show runs so that people can browse rather than wait to see their photo with the "digital mustard" on their upper lip. One can enter their first name and only the slides that contain that name are displayed. If you had your photo taken and can't find it in the slide show please send us an email. Congratulations Ray.

Martha Stewart Adopts the Same Software.

We have been using WordPress to power the new "Peggy Jo Studio Newsletter Blog" and just recently Martha Stewart moved over to the same software. Her page looks different because she is using a different template. WordPress has a great many templates which we might look into in the future but right now we are using a very basic one. We will be extracting information from her blog on a daily basis through RSS ( Really Simple Syndication). The Day's Events from this newsletter will also be on the blog and some of them will provide a map.

As more organizations have elected to submit their events to the Peggy Jo Studio Newsletter it has increased the size of the file that we send to you each Monday morning. Because the file is larger, some of you do not receive the information on Monday and maybe not at all. Sometimes, because of it's size, your internet service provider routes it to your bulk mail or even your spam folder.

With the blog, we can introduce a topic in the newsletter and provide a link to the blog which can give you more details.

Another feature of the blog is that each day's events will be listed on the "Events and News " page with a map to the event's venue. Below is the link to the blog. It will also contain any up-to-date information and/or announcements.

Be Suspicious of Emails that say "I checked this out on Snopes"

One of the techniques used by people who spread false information via email is to claim that they checked out the facts on "Snopes" and/or "FactFind".. They depend upon the receivers of the email to believe them and to forward a copy of the email to everyone they have in their contact list. Often, Snopes actually says something quite different, so you should always check out these sites yourself.

The internet is a wonderful way to spread the word and people are to be encouraged to express their opinions but spreading false information ruins the medium.

Beth Shalom Presents Neshama Carlebach

Congregation Beth Shalom Presents Neshama Carlebach Oak Park, MI. Neshama Carlebach, daughter of the late revered Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, will make a rare Detroit area appearance September 12-14 leading a Soul of Carlebach weekend at Congregation Beth Shalom in Oak Park, Michigan. The weekend begins Friday night at 6 p.m. with a family dinner and a special Carlebach Kabbalat Shabbat service where Neshama will speak and sing.

On Saturday, following religious services where she will speak, Neshama will share stories of her father at a Lunch and Learn. The highlight of the weekend will be Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. when Neshama performs in Beth Shalom's annual Cantor Sam and Mona Greenbaum Concert. There will also be a special Saturday night private patron event for Patron-level sponsors of the Greenbaum Concert. All events are open to the community.

Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach changed the face of Jewish music, and his songs have inspired Jewish congregations around the world. He is considered by many to be the foremost Jewish religious songwriter in the second half of the 20th century. In a career that spanned over 30 years, he recorded more than 25 albums that continue to have wide popularity and appeal. His influence continues to this day, in part through his daughter, Neshama. Neshama continues her father's legacy with a deep spirituality and charisma that draws audiences wherever she performs. She sings not only her father's music, but her own original songs as well.

Common Ground's 34th Art in the Park - Arts & Craft Events

Artworks for Life

Artworks for Life, the 13th annual event benefiting HIV /AIDS prevention programs at Midwest AIDS Prevention. Featuring the works of more than 200 of metro Detroit's most notable artists, Artworks for Life, is the area's premier art event showcasing both a live and silent art auction with charity auctioneer Jim Miller. This one-of-a-kind event will include butler-passed hors d'oeuvres, music by the Mel Ball Orchestra and a cash bar. Artists include Carl Demeulenaere, Mel Rosas and Anne Fracassa. Honorary Chairpersons are Governor Jennifer Granholm, and Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow. Honorary host is Monica Gayle of FOX2 -WJBK.

Event sponsors include: FOX2 , WJBK, Bank of America, Visteon Corporation, Eclipse Creative, WDET -FM, The Detroit News, MetroTimes, Henry Ford Health System, Dr. Daniel Haddad , Laser Eye Institute, Between the Lines and Hour Detroit.
