Charley's Ballpark Mustard Fares Well With Other Premium Brands
In an article published in the Detroit News on Thursday May 28, 2009, Judith Harris Solomon reported the results of a taste test by the Detroit News taste panel They conducted a blind test of six stone ground mustards including Charley's. Ms. Solomon stated :
"For this tasting we sampled six brands of mustard including Charley's Ballpark Mustard, the creation of Charley Marcuse, Detroit's renowned Comerica Park singer and hot dog hawker...(Marcuse launched his company just one year ago and is already selling his mustard all over town). And while Charley's Mustard did not receive the panel's highest score it did earn a respectable 3.9 from the panel"
The highest score was 4.2 and the lowest was 3.6. which indicates a very tight race.
Judith Harris Solomon is a Metro Detroit free-lance writer. If you would like to be a guest taste panelist, contact her at judyfreelance@aol.com
New Border Rules Start on June 1
When going to Canada and returning to the USA travelers will be required to prove eligibility to enter the USA. An American passport is the ideal document.
Under the new rule, travelers also can use a passport card issued by the U.S. State Department to cross land borders. The card does not work for air travel. At $45 for first-time applicants, it's a more affordable alternative to the traditional passport, which costs $100. More than 1 million passport cards have been issued since last year.
Identification documents available under the "Trusted Traveler" programs are also accepted. Those require fees ranging from $50 to more than $100. These programs, developed by the U.S, Canadian and Mexican governments, allow vetted travelers faster access to the border. In some cases, members in these programs have their own lanes at border crossings.
Enhanced driver's licenses, which use a microchip to store a person's information, also can be used to cross the northern and southern borders. Washington state, Vermont, New York, and Michigan
Saturday June 6, 2009 is the 65th Anniversary of D-Day
On June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy. The D-Day cost was high -more than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded -- but more than 100,000 Soldiers began the march across Europe to defeat Hitler.
General Eisenhower's Message
Sent Just Prior to the Invasion
Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.
Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely.
But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to victory!
I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!
Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.
-- Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower

Detroit Free Press Published Article !!
On Saturday May 29, 2009 The Detroit Free Press joined the Peggy Jo Studio Newsletter in publicizing The brand new "Cocktail Macinac Race"
Detroit Yacht Club Commodore Bob Cowle's 46' Beneteau Sloop "My Fair Lady is in the photo. He is also committed to the race and his application is complete so he will be starting from Port Huron in the first start of the morning on July 25, 2009. The rest of the Mackinac fleet will follow in 15 minute intervals.
The first leg of the race will end at Harbor Beach where the participants will have supper, bed down for the night an be ready start again on Sunday morning.
Tell all of your sailor friends about this event. Pass it on. This is something new .
Skippers, call Bob Cowles (313-822-0996) even if you are just remotely interested. Leave a message with your phone number and/or your email address . Some of the boats registering might need crew. If interested contact Bob Cowles.
He is taking applications and one can get that information by clicking on the Race Registration Documents link. The Word files do not always translate well to the WordPress blogs, so you can also get copies by calling Commodore Bob Cowles at the number above.
The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily so they can meet their quota of getting FREE FOOD donated every day to abused and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute (about 15 seconds) to go to their site and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals for free'. This doesn't cost you a thing.
Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.
Here's the web site! Please pass it along to people you know.
We are including your letter because we checked it out the site via Snopesat http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/charity/animalrescue.asp .

Peggy Jo
Dear Peggy Jo,
In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do
affects someone else and perhaps even their job. So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track. Let's get behind her!!
Take this with a grain of salt, still a good idea to read the label.
My grandson likes Hershey's candy. It is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more. My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico now. I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything.
This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off brand labeled, "Everyday Value." I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA in a company in Cleveland , Ohio .
So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here.
So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets....yep, you guessed it,
Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada . The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!
So my challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop
for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!
If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address
book so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying from China ..... or Mexico
......
(We should have awakened a decade ago......)
Let's get with the program.... help our fellow Americans keep their
jobs and create more jobs here in the U.S.A. !!!
I am so with this!!!!! The regulations in other countries are not the same as ours. We are paying too much for less quality. They send us things that can hurt us and our children. Plus we are putting ourselves out of a job. The government and big business is not supporting the working population of America , so let's get together and do it ourselves. Together we can make a difference!!!!
Regards, MA
