Fox News reported an incident where a woman was operated on to remove a tumor in her brain but the surgeons found instead a worm.
The operating doctor explained that worms can be injested into the body by eating undercooked pork. It can also be spread by people who have injested a worm and have handled food without first washing their hands.. Using VHF & VHF/DSC Marine Radio Detroit Regional Yacht-racing Association
WED 2009-01-28 All mariners should know about VHF. Most new marine radio technology incorporates Digital Selective Calling (DSC). VHF radio is the mainstay of coastal communication, required for race committee success, and essential for emergency communications. DCS, the new generation communication system, is rapidly becoming a reality as more Coast Guard Rescue 21 System operations go live. DSC vastly simplifies and improves rescue efforts as well as routine call signaling - making it much easier to make a call while the system frees up Channel 16 for essential communications. This seminar will be taught by the noted Power Squadron educator, John Sommers, of the Toledo Yacht Club. This seminar not only explains basic VHF operation, but provides instruction on use of the new DSC technology. A CD with a DSC Simulator that allows you to practice on your computer at home and a waterproof McGraw-Hill Captain's Quick Guide Using VHF will be available for ordering at a nominal charge.
